July in Mission Beach

July in Mission Beach

Charley’s has three face to face board meetings each year plus others via Zoom. As the only non-local director, I travel up for the face to facers.

The July 26th meeting was busy and covered a lot of ground, including tasting our 2024 chocolate offering. Watch out for it later in the year.

My July visit is short; its only 23 C! It is busy with end of financial year and next year’s budget on the agenda. But I make an effort to check out the local interests. Here are some of them:

  • 1.The Cassowary land bridge on the Bruce Highway continues its merry way – consuming taxpayer dollars endlessly. The latest is that it is closed to cassowaries for 2 years so the vegetation can establish itself on top of the bridge. Cassowaries walk on vegetation, not concrete usually. The first lot was washed away – as forecast by locals.

  • 1.The Pocket offers a café and animal farm experience at El Arish on the Bruce Highway, a short distance from Charley’s. They are an innovative lot. The latest is a clothing exchange. Business was hot on my Sunday morning coffee visit.

  • 1.The refurbished Elandra Resort is now operating. Great views for those with deep pockets. ‘Escape to a lavish and secluded tropical resort’
  • 2.The latest wine and food offering in Mission Beach village is Laundro Lounge. Very much a novelty experience.
